How Does the Number of Emails to Download in Batch From the Email Parser Settings Affect Performance?

Overview

This article provides information on how the number of emails to download in batch which is configured in the email parser settings affects your Kayako Classic performance.

Information

The 'Maximum number of emails to download in a batch' which can be set in the admin control panel of the helpdesk under Settings > Email Parser determines the number of email messages to be fetched in a single go by the email parser from the mailboxes associated with the email queues.

By default, it's set to '20', which is fine if your helpdesk has a small number of queues and doesn't routinely fetch large email attachments.

If, however, you find yourself with a large number of queues and regular email attachments exceeding 8 MB, we recommend changing this setting to '10' or lower.

NOTE: If you do not adjust this setting to accommodate a large number of queues or large attachments, it can significantly impact the performance of your helpdesk. The higher the value of 'Maximum number of emails to download in a batch', the more the resources required to fetch the emails.

The email size limit, which defines the maximum size of email that can be fetched into the helpdesk, should also be considered when configuring the email parser settings. For more information about this topic, please visit the Email Attachment Size Limits in Kayako Classic article.
